The Muslim Leadership Council of San Diego (MLCSD, www.mlcsd.org) , an umbrella organization representing over 25 Muslim organizations based in San Diego today joined millions of Americans in applauding the outcome of the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin. The guilty conviction on all three charges was a welcome change to the lack of police accountability that Black and Brown communities have witnessed over time.
“The murder of Mr. Floyd is forever seared in our collective memory as a nation,” said Adib Mahdi, Director of Public Relations of the Muslim Leadership Council. “This guilty verdict should serve as a precedent for the nation and is a step in the right direction.”
“George Floyd should be alive today,” said Ismahan Abdullahi, Board Member at Muslim Leadership Council. ” We must ensure not only greater accountability for law enforcement but a meaningful systemic shift where Black and Brown lives are not lost due to police brutality. We shouldn’t have to demand justice for our communities to get justice.”
